Friday and "Open House"

What an amazing school year start-up we have been having at LBS! Typically, at this time of year, we host Parent Teacher Conferences in an Open House format. With restrictions due to Covid-19, our format has been adjusted. This year, each class has created a video to introduce families to our school, answer commonly asked questions and show details of how our class works. These videos will be released on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at 4:00 pm. If you have questions after viewing the video, please reach out. We are certainly missing seeing families in our school building and look forward to future opportunities where this may be possible.

Our community walk was a success! It was so nice to leave the school grounds and explore other public spaces within the Lake Bonavista community. We explored Wapta Park, where we did a sit spot examining the strengths and areas of improvement of this public space. We also looked at the connection to the environment and the community.

We completed our Alberta and Canada Maps. We have been discussing Capital Cities, Provinces, and Territories. Next, we will be exploring different regions within Alberta and Canada, their geographic features, and how they contribute to our identity.

Students have been using our Montessori Pin Maps as a responsible work choice and an extension of our work in Social Studies.

We have began our class read aloud, The One and Only Ivan.

In Math, we continue or work with graphing.

Week 2

Hello Room 16 Families,

We have had another great week!

This week we began exploring maps. We looked at maps of Canada and Alberta, and created our own maps of the school. Next week we will begin looking at provinces, capital cities, and cities within Alberta.

In math, we began using bar graphs and collected data within the class to better get to know everyone one. We are creating a bar graph with out table groups and will present our findings next week. We are focusing on incorporating all the part of a a bar graph including labels, categories, titles, and properly spaced integers.

We read the book The Truth about my Unbelievable Summer and used it as an inspiration to write our own stories about our unbelievable summer. We were able to be super creative and lots of us did a mixture of fiction and nonfiction writing.

Have a wonderful weekend!
