Wednesday, October 30th

Hello Families,

Room 9 did AMAZING in their assembly today.

Here is the plan for tomorrow.

In the morning students are going to be participating in different centers with other grade 1/2 classes. Students will have lunch as normal, but will use their extra time to change into their costume. If there is face paint included in their costume, please put it on in the morning before school. If using face paint, we need to be able to identify your child, so please do not cover their full faces. Again, this is a reminder that costumes need to be school appropriate, please no masks, weapons, or gore.

Our Halloween Parade will start at 1:00. This will give students a chance to show off their costumes. Families are welcome to come watch in the gym.

After the parade we will have our in class party. We will be having snack and games. If you would like to bring a snack, we ask that it is a healthy snack. We also have a severe nut allergy and strawberry allergy, so please keep this in mind. For games, students can bring a board game, card game, or any non-electronic, school appropriate games that they can teach others how to play.

Reminders:

Friday, November 1st - No school for students

Assembly Reminder

This is a reminder that we have our assembly on Wednesday, October 30th at 1:10.

Hope to see you there!

Halloween

Hello Families,

This post includes some details about Halloween Day. More specific details will be shared tomorrow but I wanted to give you the information that I have received so far.

Costumes are to be worn in the afternoon only. Students will have to opportunity to change at lunch

Our school-wide Halloween Parade , will take place in the afternoon, families are welcome to come watch.

We request that costumes are school appropriate. This means, no weapons, masks or gore, and costumes need to be of a reasonable size (not huge). Our school also requests that students are able to change into their costumes independently.

Room 9 will have a Halloween party on Thursday afternoon. If families would like to contribute snacks to the party please contact me. Snacks need to be healthy and there needs to be enough for all students (we have 21 in our class). In our class we have a severe nut allergy and strawberry allergy, please keep this in mind if you are planning on bringing a snack for the class.

We will be playing board games, if anyone would like to bring one to play they are more than welcome. It does need to be school appropriate, and they will need to be able to teach it with their friends.

I will send out more specific information tomorrow once the staff has had time to solidify the plan for Thursday afternoon.

Parents and families are invited to join our celebration of learning. If you are planning to attend please show up early as the assembly will be starting at 1:10.

Wednesday, October 9

Hello Families,

This week we have continued our learning about even and odd numbers. Students sorted their names looking at the amount of letters to determined whether they have an even or odd amount of letters. Students then shared their strategy with me to prove to me whether it was even or odd.

Yesterday, we introduced data collection and data organization. Student went and surveyed the class on what eye colour they have. They then organized their data into categories with tally marks to demonstrate the number of different eye colours. Today, we took our data and put it into a bar graph. We talked about why we use a bar graph and how it is one way for us to show our data.

We have continued our work with the Circle of Courage. We have wrapped up our section on Generosity and have been working on Mastery. We have discussed what Mastery looks like, it can be mental, physical, social, or spiritual. We have also talked about how Mastery is based on personal achievement and having a growth mindset helps us to achieve our goals.

We are continuing with our letter and word work which will wrap up later next week. The following week we will be starting our spelling program. Students will receive words that are at their "just right" level so everyone's will be different. They will be doing word work at school daily in order to practice their spelling.

Reminder:
Thursday, October 10th - 2:45 Dismissal

Thursday, October 10th - ADmazing Savings books and forms due tomorrow

Friday, October 11th - No School

Monday, October 14th - No School

Have a great long weekend!

Thursday, October 3rd

Hello Families,

This week we have been working on even and odd numbers. The students have been looking at where we see even and odd numbers in our daily lives, working with partners to develop and observe strategies, and playing even and odd math games to strengthen our understanding of these numbers.

We have also been talking about generosity and what words we think of when we hear the word generous. We have connected generosity to the work of Maria Montessori, Mother Theresa, and Terry Fox. We will be looking into some other peace makers around the world, so we can brainstorm some ways that we can be generous within our communities.

As a class we have been working on developing a Bullseye Rubric, using exemplars to help identify what is "off target" work, "on target work" and, "bullseye" work. Students will use this rubric to self-assess, set goals, and improve their work. This week we developed criteria for Colouring and Drawing/Details.

Some of you may have received your child's Math Games Folder at the Open House last week. I will be sending the rest home with the rest of the students tomorrow. Please read the letter, take out the games for you to keep at home, and send back the yellow folder on Monday.

If you have any questions feel free to email me.

Important Dates:
