Gymnastics!

We will begin gymnastics in our regularly scheduled gym classes on Monday, April 25th.  The gymnastics unit will last two weeks.  Safety routines, cooperation and sportsmanship are taught and reviewed in each class.

This physical activity opportunity will help students acquire individual skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate movement activities.

It is important for students to come to school prepared for being actively engaged. The following guidelines are very helpful…

HEAD TO TOE - READY TO GO!!!

Head ....................... long hair pulled back

Ears/Throat/Wrist ............... jewellery off

Shirt.................................. one layer shirt

Waist ................................................tucked in

Pants.........................sporty pants or shorts, no belts or zippers

Ankles..........................pants rolled up if ankles are covered

Toes...............running shoes, gymnastic slippers or bare feet (no footed tights)

Thursday, April 14

 Hi Families,

We've had an amazing couple of weeks. We went on our first field trip in 2 years and have an artist here to work with us!

Telus Spark was great! Everyone had an awesome time. We had a class on electrical circuits and spend the rest of the time exploring.

With the artist, we experimented with making natural colours from items nature has to offer. We tested the PH and explored making the colour more acidic and basic using vinegar and baking soda to change the colours.

In math, we have been multiplying number. We have explored making friendly number, partial product, and distributive property and strategies when solving multi-digit equations. We have been participating in many number talks and sharing our personal mental math strategies and applying those when solving difficult problems.

Important Dates:

April 15 - No School
April 18 - PD Day (no school)
April 20 - Inside Education

Telus Spark

Hello Families,

We are so excited for our field trip to Telus Spark on Monday!

Please try your best to have your child arrive on time on Monday morning as our class will be reviewing expectations and the schedule for the day. We will be departing Lake Bonavista School at 8:45 a.m. Please ensure your child has a litterless lunch, a water bottle and is dressed appropriately for the weather as we will spend a portion of the day outdoors. Students will only be bringing their lunch bag and water bottle on the field trip and will gather the rest of their belongings when we arrive back at school at the end of the day. Students will not have access to the cafeteria or gift shop and do not need any money.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding our field trip.

FITNESS BINGO AT LBS!

All of the classes at Lake Bonavista School are participating in a fitness bingo challenge from February 23-April 8! We wanted to share the bingo card with you so you can continue the fun at home! At school, each time a class completes a ‘blackout’ bingo card, they will be added to a draw and entered to win bonus recess time! If your family complete all of the exercises on a bingo card at your house, please notify your classroom teacher and your child’s class will receive an additional entry in the draw.

Each exercise on the bingo card is to be completed in an interval style - 20 seconds of the exercise, followed by 10 seconds of rest. In order to cross the activity off of your bingo card you must complete a minimum of 4 interval sets. If some of the exercises are unfamiliar, please ask your child to teach you the movement.

Feel free to check out the video below for a further explanation of the bingo challenge.

Hello Families,

Over the week our class made 3D shapes in the snow, nobody could do it, except for this guy.  We also made 2D and 3D shapes out of clay and tooth picks, everybody could do this. We learned about Carroll Diagrams. congruency, symmetrical and similar shapes.

This week we also did an autobiography. We started by doing a planning page, then wrote a rough draft, and after we edited and revised it. We liked writing about ourselves.

example of a students autobiography

For french we had to draw our family, cut them out,
and turn them into puppets and make a flipgrid about
them in french :D
Ask me how to say different family member in french!

That was our week in room 16
from Oliver S and Kaveer

As you can see we have some guess bloggers. We will be continuing with this throughout the year. These students take pictures and notes to write the blog at the end of the week. Thank you Kaveer and Oliver S. for the awesome work!

Also, it was suggested that we get to wear our PJs tomorrow since "we are not used to wear school clothes everyday." We has an amazing week, everyone was on task and remembered classroom expectation. It really felt like we had been in school the whole time. The students really did earn a PJ day.  So tomorrow is PJ day as well!

We'll be embracing FriYAY tomorrow!
